Gap Identified: How To Display Color Variety In Beauty Better. Dior Beauty Example.

Updated: Dec 5, 2024

An ad led me to Rouge Dior Lipstick on Dior Beauty website. The lipstick has 75 colors, which are displayed as a small circle swatches. The display also contains lipstick options divided into satin and velvet.

📌Gap: all 75 colors displayed stacked together, which makes it harder for customers to quickly identify the shade they might be looking for.

The Solution might be easier than you think. To display the shades in a more customer-friendly way...

...Grouping the shades by color families would help shoppers find their preferred color range more efficiently. Based on the palette shades could be grouped into:

• Nudes

• Browns

• Pinks

• Reds

• Corals/Peaches

• Plums and Deep Berries

Technical solution:

The product shades could be displayed with placeholders within the whole palette.

The shades within each color group could be further grouped into finish (matte or satin), although I would make a separate product pages for matte finish lipstick and satin finish lipstick.
